Happy New Year and welcome back to the Bocce Lounge. I know it’s already February, but 2025 is still just getting started. Over the past few weeks, the Philadelphia Eagles were crowned Super Bowl LIX champions, Youngstown, Ohio claimed victory in the Bocce Ryder Cup, Jose Botto won the Lorenzino’s Best of the Best Single Bocce Tournament, and there are people still trying to figure out what they watched during the Super Bowl halftime show. With so much happening in the sports world, it’s now time to turn our attention to another big bocce tournament, one that is shaping up to be an all-time classic in the first quarter of the year. The bocce season never seems to slow down, and once again, the Bocce Lounge Report is here to break down the action and set the stage for this weekend’s competition. This weekend (February 13th-16th) the Club Molisani Charities will be open to the public, welcoming everyone to come out and watch top-level bocce while enjoying food and drinks available for purchase. As the excitement builds, get ready for another thrilling weekend of bocce. Sit tight, get ready, and LET’S GET ROLLING!

Brief History:
The Mauro Frate Memorial Bocce Tournament is one of the longest standing tournaments at Club Molisani Charities since the club moved to Wickliffe, OH in 2012. The tournament has seen several different formats throughout the years. It started as a 4-person team before being switched to a 2-person, it also had a Co-Champion one year, and it’s grown from 16 teams to an annual tournament of 100+ teams in back-2-back years. The tournament has gone through some name changes also. It was previously called the Sup-Cup tournament then finally renamed to the Mauro Frate Memorial after the late Mauro Frate. A Club Molisani member who helped start bocce leagues & tournaments for the club members younger kids, introducing bocce to a younger generation, whom a lot of players still play today! The tournament honors Mauro Frate spirit as contributor to growth of the game!

Tournament Preview💥

Tournament Format: Each flight will advance 6 teams (24 total) to the Championship Sunday Bracket, where a champion will be crowned. Adding to the tension, the tournament is a continuous double-elimination format, meaning every match matters throughout the entire weekend. Teams will carry any losses from their flight into Sunday. Matches in the bracket flights are played to 13 points, while Championship Sunday matches are to 14 points. Top 16 will receive a cash prize, with 1st place receiving $4200

  • Thursday Night Bracket (5:30pm): 26 teams

  • Friday Night Bracket (5:30pm): 25 teams

  • Saturday Morning Bracket (9:00am): 25 teams

  • Saturday Night Bracket (4:00pm): 25 teams
